Solar Powered Roads–Possible?

What if a road could power your electric car? This is what solar panels embedded into highways could look like. Interesting concept, replacing asphalt paved roads with textured glass solar panels that could keep themselves free of snow and charge electric cars as the vehicles drive over them. Sounds unlikely, but an Idaho couple has tested the idea in a parking lot. Before you reject the notion out of hand, pulverized glass is currently used as a traction supplement in asphalt highways NOW, which is a good way to recycle mixed color broken glass. The developers claim the surface can withstand 125 ton vehicles. The question I would have is the relative cost and the potential for harm from grooving by wheels with blown tires, sinkholes and earthquakes. Cracking and potholes? All-in-all, still an idea worth looking into. Read the article from CNN here.
