China is not alone in violating human rights. International Olympics Committee and world expectations were that their behavior would improve if the the Olympics came there. It doesn’t seem that way. Just as importantly to me is the fact that not a day goes by that one product or another imported from China must be recalled as being unsafe for human consumption. Removing the Olympics from China might be more sensible than boycotting them. Boycotting the products imported from China might make more sense, both in terms of sending the often state-related industries a message as well as protecting our own health.

About boycotting the Olympic Games, i’m not sure it will do any good…On the contrary it will upset the Chinese People who will only understand what the Party will tell to understand…
We’d better go as the OG are a great means to directly communicate with the Chinese People without the communist filter.
There are some athletes who have decided to wear a green ribbon as a sign of protest. I think it’s a great initiative that the whole world will see( including Chinese citizens) and that the Party will have difficulty to explain…

You may be right Tom. One sports commentator suggested moving the Olympics rather than boycotting them. There may not be time to make that happen. I do think, however, that boycotting goods might be an effective option. It will negatively impact Chinese people but my feeling is that in the long run, it will give more impetus to reform.
